Despite social media, cell phones, and television, good reading is an important tool for every moment of your life.
That's true, sometimes we skip this point because we think it's too hardworking or takes a lot of time... However, the majority of times we are doing it the wrong way and letting go of our reading passion. We are abandoning the reader who is inside ourselves.
The school does try to teach us how to read, but what we learn is very superficial and gets boring with time.
Have you ever read a book and in the end you felt like you couldn't absorb anything?
This is a common thing. And this is why I am here today. At the end of this post, you will be able to read without those highlighted problems. So, let's go.
Below I summarize how to do it more simply and nicely.
1)Discovering you're why
2) Looking for keywords
3) Searching for feedback
4) Reading the summary
5) Thinking first
6) Taking time
7) Giving your opinion
#Why
First of all, it's important to know why you are reading that book. Is it for pleasure, obligation, self-improvement? Whatever it's the reason you need to clarify if you need to read it now or if you can do it little by little, without much pressure.
I am saying that because sometimes we have a big list of books we wanna read and we became lost and anxious to read all of them. Here resides the importance of knowing your reason.
#Videos
After discovering why you should watch videos, read the synopsis of the book, reviews... Know a little more about the book you will read and have a general image of that.
A good way I use and I recommend is to what YouTube videos talking about that book. The good point is you can watch different points of view and be more critical while reading the book.
You can listen to podcasts, talk to somebody who read the same book... Whatever you prefer.
#Chapters and preface
The next step is to read the preface. There are books where just by reading the chapters name you learn a lot.
At this moment you will skim for keywords, the most important points, analyze pictures and frames, and so on.
By doing this you will have a general understanding of the book and be prepared to start your journey.
#Preparing your tools
Now you are ready to read. What should you do?
Definitely isn't to take the popcorn or any other food.
P.S.: Please, don't eat while reading!
Now you should take a dictionary and a notebook, or your cell phone. In this place, you will write down words that you don't know, events, names, things that you should search more later.
#Letting go
Now, you will take a deep breath and start reading the book. Firstly, clean up your mind from prejudgements. If the book presents a point of view you disagree with, try to read it the same way and understand the author's point of view.
P.S.: I am not saying to you agree with the author. I am just saying to you analyze his point of view without judging it just because you don't agree.
Of course, if you are too influential and aren't right about your ability to read without changing your mind, I suggest you try more calm books first, before reading the ones who have opinions pretty strong.
Later, when you feel more full of yourself and with your opinion more established that's nice to read different ones and maybe to change your mind, consciously.
#Reading
At this moment you are reading. The words are increasing your knowledge and your critical thoughts are growing.
What is the next step?
That's the time when you will separate the book into small parts. You can use the chapter's division or make your own.
After that, you will avoid highlighting or writing things while reading. During the reading, you will do only it. And then, you will take your notebook and mark things you consider important.
And last, but not least, you'll make your statements about that little peace you've read.
This is a nice video that teaches us how to read. The reminiscent one isn't mine.
#Teaching
It's nice to take some time before this last step. Maybe a day it's a friendly idea.
After that time you will take a sheet or your cell phone, your laptop, whatever you prefer, and make your general view of the book, considering everything you read and learned from that.
And the ultimate point is to give a lecture. Talking out loud you will recognize everything you absorbed from that book.
Thank you for reading this post. I hope you have enjoyed and learned so much with it.
Have you ever get bored while reading a book? I will wait for your answers in the comment section below.
Because the only thing I've learned from talking to the people on this story is that to be a true writer, all you have to do is... write. If you want to be a better writer so you can write better books, you can. Just focus on your book and over time your writing will get better and better. If you get stuck on a particular section and stop moving forward, find another part of the book you enjoy today and write that section instead. The point is to break out of the “Well, if I did some more research…” spiral, and then two years later, your book is still stuck. Your "Good" spiral is bullshit, and procrastination keeps you from finishing your book. (Here you can find a post on how to stop procrastinating). That no one cares what many of us say, or that we can never write a whole book. We persevere when haters tell us to stop, we overcome when our limits crawl like fences to be overcome, and we devour articles that offer advice on how to write better, faster, and smarter. `O...
Sometimes we might lose, others we will win . The choice is in our hands. If you wanna know how to stop procrastinating and have your full potential unlocked, read this post. To achieve this goal, we should set up a schedule with our aims and stay with it. But I know it isn't that easy and we can lose our minds trying to do that. But here goes a video where you can learn how to do the best schedule. The remaining one isn't mine, that's just a nice one I found on Google. And here goes the title of this post: just start . As well said, the best day to start was 10 years ago and the second one is today. So let's do it. Now I invite you to imagine you are two steps away from your dream. Your desired behavior, your new habit, whatever. You are between a hollow space and to wake up early, to save money, lose 20 kilograms ... And so on. What you need to do is to create a bridge. You must apply effort for doing that. This will be your schedule. If well done it will...
